Please BUCK.DOC file for further copyright information.
Buckedit has been tested on a Laser Turbo XT with 640 KB RAM running
SuperBBS 1.11 (reg). No serious errors have been detected in the program.
We have done our best to debug this program. To our knowledge it
should not cause undue harm to any system if operated according to
these instructions on an IBM compatible computer. Alan Graff (dba
Cross Connect Software) will not be held responsible for loss of data
or damage to software or hardware that might be caused by the
operation of this program.
What Buckedit is
-----------------
Buckedit is an editor door for the author's game door, Buccaneer.
It may be operated as an internal door while the game is in progress,
as a separate door, or run from the DOS prompt. It is designed to
operate on either Remote Access BBS, QuickBBS or SuperBBS. Buckedit
permits the system operator or anyone with sufficient security clear-
ance to change, add and/or delete data from the game files.
Starting Buckedit
-----------------
Buckedit REQUIRES ANSI graphics.
The setup and operation of Buckedit is rather simple, just place
BUCKEDIT.EXE, BUCKEDIT.ANS and BUCK.KEY (if yours is a registered
version) in the same directory as your main Buccaneer files.
If Buccaneer is running for you, Buckedit should then be available
when you select the * option on the game command menu when running
in "CHEAT" mode.
If you wish to run Buckedit as a separate door, just copy the
menu data you use for Buccaneer to a new menu record, change the
information on the data line to "BUCKEDIT" instead of "BUCK210"
and select a new hot key. Be sure to change the security
level also unless you want your users getting access to it!
To run Buckedit in local mode, simply use /L as a parameter when
calling it (i.e.: C:>BUCKEDIT /L ).
If you permit other persons access to Buckedit, various items of
information about them will be displayed in a 2 line bar at the
bottom of the local display. The remote user does not see this
information bar. This bar does not display if you are running
on the local terminal.
If you get the message "DOS ERROR" when you try to use Buckedit
inside the game while online, it MAY mean you do not have sufficient
memory available, although other problems may cause this message.
If you have been using a type 7 menu exit, you may want to try a type
15 exit instead.
Running Buckedit on other BBS systems:
I have little information on running this program using some of the
door patch programs that are currently in circulation. Input from
users who have successfully done so would be appreciated. If you
are running Buccaneer on a system using the /S option, Buckedit
will abort since it currently requires the DORINFO1.DEF file. I
will try to correct this problem with the next version.
If you run into problems setting up Buckedit, let me know at one of
the addresses listed later. I will try to help you as much as is
possible without being able to sit down at your computer and run
the program. Information that would be helpful in tracing the
problem includes:
-Information on the drives and paths found on your system, especially
those involved with BBS operation and Buccaneer/Buckedit.
-A copy of any batch files involved in running Buccaneer/Buckedit.
-A description of menu lines that call the program, including the data
line and menu type.
-A copy of your edited BUCK.CFG file.
-A listing of the files that reside in the directory you have created
for the game.
*****************************************************************
SPECIAL NOTE FOR MULTI-TASKING SYSTEMS:
You may notice a dramatic slow down of this program if you are
running multi-tasking software. This is due to the I/O operations
of JPDoor which was used to handle most of the modem operations of
Buckedit.
To correct this problem, execute the following line with a batch
file before running Buckedit:
SET OUTBUFF=ON
When completing Buckedit, execute this line to return your system
to normal operation:
SET OUTBUFF=OFF
*****************************************************************
Files included in this archive:
-------------------------------
BUCKEDIT.EXE (Main program)
BUCKEDIT.DOC (This file)
BUCKEDIT.ANS (Editing menu screen)
Game files required for correct operation:
------------------------------------------
BUCK.USR
BUCK.DAY
BUCKSHIP.DAT
DORINFO1.DEF (Not required for local operation)
ATTENTION!!!
=====================================================================
Buckedit will not not edit files created by Buccaneer version 1.00,
nor will files created by this program run on Buccaneer version 1.00!
You MUST upgrade to at LEAST Buccaneer version 1.01 to use Buckedit
with game data files!

screen.
